What
is an Elephant Calendar?
An Elephant Calendar is a paper organizer that utilizes
Anoto
technology. Elephant Calendars are printed utilizing
a proprietary pattern of very small dots printed on
paper that is perceived by the eye as a slightly off-white
color. The pattern of dots allows the digital
pen's camera to record the pen's movements during
the process of writing and drawing. When a digital
pen that has written on a Elephant Calendar is synchronized
with a computer with Elephant Calendar Software installed,
the handwriting is saved to the computer.

I have
a Palm (iPaq, Blackberry, etc.), why would I want
a Elephant Calendar?
Elephant Calendar was created by Erik Nilsson. Erik
was an avid Palm user until the day his Palm malfunctioned
while he was sitting across the table from a HUGE
client. The client asked Erik when he would be available
to sit down with them to set their budget for Erik's
services for the upcoming year. Erik whipped out his
Palm and found that his digitizer did not work. He
had to wing it and pick a date and time at random
for the client meeting because his Palm's calendar
was unavailable. Erik walked out of that meeting and
bought a paper calendar.
The paper calendar only solved
half the problem. One month later Erik lost his calendar
somewhere between Boston's Logan Airport and his hotel
in Tulsa. From that moment on, Erik focused his energies
on developing a way to merge the convenience of paper
calendars with the security and flexibility of the
digital world... and the Elephant Calendar was born.

What
if I don't have a digital pen?
Digital
pens are the vehicles that ferry your handwriting
from the Elephant Calendar to your computer. Without
a digital pen, your Elephant Calendar works just like
any other paper calendar. Digital pens are relatively
new and are becoming more and more prevalent. Elephant
Calendar recommends the Logitech io2 and makes it
available with its Elephant
Calendar Starter Set. Logitech is the the first
manufacturer to produce a second generation digital
pen. This makes the io2 pen the most advanced digital
pen on the market. Other major digital pen manufacturers
include Maxell,
Nokia
and Sony
Ericsson.

Can
I use a Elephant Calendar with Microsoft Outlook?
No, Elephant Calendar does not integrate with Outlook.
Elephant Calendar creates images of your handwriting.
It does not turn your handwriting into text. We know
how messy your handwriting is when you scribble in
your calendar. Your mom can barely decipher it, so
don't expect a computer to do a better job. Sorry.
FYI - handwriting recognition is traditionally 90%
accurate when a user writes in a very standardized
manner. This means that one digit in a ten digit phone
number will be wrong.
